An open letter to Hillary Clinton

bernie-sanders-hillary-clinton-geometric-line-art-by-mitch-boyer

Dear Hillary Rodham Clinton,

I’ve found myself in a sometimes troubling situation; having to often defend you when I was an early Bernie Sanders supporter. Bernie Sanders appealed to such a broad range of people; from my bible thumping ultra Conservative Republican family (who let’s face it, still would of voted for Trump), to my far left friends and associates. His drama and scandal free platform, his consistent anti-war stance, his continued fight for equal rights throughout his entire career, his seemingly simple solutions to complex problems all ignited a sense of unity across the party lines. He boldly shed light on issues that many have accepted as status quo in the USA. He made us dream that perhaps our student loans wouldn’t be an overwhelming debt that we live under every month. That families planning for college might actually not have that burden all this while “pursuing an agenda of dealing with stagnant incomes and income inequality is no longer the liberal pole in the Democratic Party but is the solid majority position,” – In a sense Sanders encouraged people to ask for more from our politicians all across party lines. While 71% of people under 30 voted for Sanders in the primaries, his inability to gain support among POC communities was his main issue and therefore cost him the primaries. (that fact there is an indication of some greater issues surrounding Sanders that goes largely unaddressed) Read Also many believe the DNC had their faith rooted in you and ignored warnings that you will be ousted much easier than the Socialist, though considering how people showed up for the Republicans this year, that is a toss up we’ll never know. There are many views both supporting both sides of the issue. Read or Read

Many of my friends and peers who were Bernie Supporters were outraged by your appointment. Many, still until this day feel as though you somehow cheated, (even though scientific studies have proven time and again that voter fraud is an extremely rare occurrence). Watch In fact, voter disenfranchise is much more of a real world problem than stealing the election. And certainly the Republican party has a much more substantiated history of voter fraud. Bernie Sanders himself has never cried voter fraud and is endorsing you. I don’t believe he was forced to either. I believe Bernie Sanders has been threatened his entire political career and wouldn’t just throw in the towel now, I believe he sees the big picture, and like I, is now doing what it takes to see you in the White House. I love that you have adopted some of his policies into your platform.

You have some great people that believe in you. I see some extremely progressive, smart, and informed people taking up for you. However this isn’t always easy. I’m not interested in the scandal and propaganda. Your email mismanagement doesn’t frighten me, as I realize email servers, including the United States governments’ get hacked, and what was revealed in your emails, was largely unconcerning to me. I also don’t follow wikileaks and don’t think the brogrammers behind the hacks have my ideals in mind, nor do they represent people like me. I realize that the way classified information is handled needs to be changed on a massive level, but this isn’t just your fault, this is the failing of the system. I think you’ve acknowledged this and I think you’ll certainly be more careful in the future. Between Trump and his embodiment of racism, sexism, and failed capitalism, and the scandals that plague you, this election has been taking a toll on us all. But I don’t care about your drama, what I do care about are your policies. I realize you haven’t always supported marriage equality (a big deal for me) but you’ve come around, and I think people can change, and in fact showing that you are open to hearing the dialogue that surrounds you and adjusting is a plus. I’m excited by your energy policy, solar and wind power are really fascinating green alternatives that we’ve never seen being incorporated into the main policy platform for a nominee for POTUS. And it doesn’t take much of a read to figure out that Trump’s energy platform would be absolutely devastating for our environment (my other big political interest=environment). Even the Union for Coal Miners don’t support Trump, I mean people don’t actually want to work in mines, they want jobs. Green energy could be the shift that turns this country into the Global Green Energy Superpower that you’ve spoken of. This ignites my passion and inspires me. Out of all the politicians, I think if you really follow through on your promises, out of everyone, you have the know-how to get this done. I love that you will protect Obama’s Clean Energy and the Recovery Act.

But we can’t set aside your past record. My greatest concern is your highly interventionist activity, that has atleast twice, led to greater international issues. I’m sure you could agree that the way Libya and Honduras turned out was disastrous. I can understand the passion you must feel when you meet with rebel forces who promise democracy to their country if you help them overthrow their leaders however I think that you would be well served to take such a passionate interest in supporting the “rebel forces” in your own country. Take a hard stand for Native American rights, stand up for what’s right, here. Obama won the presidency twice, on a simple idea: “Change” – now show us what that change can look like. We’ve seen great strides in equal rights, now let’s see that across the board. Many people complain that Obama’s biggest failing is that he doesn’t talk to enough actual POC. POC are still at risk during simple traffic stops, more likely to be arrested, and this exposure of white supremacy that Obama has unearthed, has got many people more scared than before. You must address the real needs of the populations that are supporting you, and in this case you’ve got a huge following coming again from the POC community. And you must not trade lives abroad for financial support of your charity (as some have speculated). Which I realize is highly respected in the charity community and has literally helped millions and millions of people around the world. Read I also realize the charity has promised to not take foreign money if you are elected. We also have concerns about your ties to GMO and other dirty industries that you promise to reform. Though I understand these issues are never cut and dry. I realize you haven’t always been rich, and that you’ve used your insider knowledge and connections to get your family to a very wealthy level. Make sure you are never trading what’s right for what makes money. It will never turn out well. Also perhaps we don’t want to intervene in every war, though you will face criticism no matter which way you decide. For me, the fact that you have experience dealing with military situations is a good thing. It’s not like war is going to end or other countries will stop asking the USA for aid, just because Trump becomes president. (or Jill Stein for that matter)

I think this election has shown, despite what people may think, and despite what I may have thought at one point, we the people do have the power. You need to be accountable to us. If you are elected, you will be under an intense amount of scrutiny to deliver on your promises and to make moral and just decisions. Don’t let us down. But all of this isn’t just on you. There are many of us working towards the same goals as you. So if you are true to your promises, then the country, and the world will be in a lot better position.

No matter who you vote for, I think one thing we can all agree on, the elections during 2016 have been a painful experience. Reasons for this are many. For starters, we have so much on the line. Our environment, our civil liberties, our safety are all up for grabs. Social media has given everybody a soapbox that at minimum a few people will hear, but at maximum, can carry a message to millions as posts go viral on every side of the fence. With this power comes a great responsibility to us all. That responsibility is to exhaustively fact check everything you can before posting or sharing a news article. However not everyone has the time, ability, skill or interest to do this. I think what we loved about Bernie Sanders was his perceived transparency. I think what people trust the least about you, is your perceived inaccessibility. Because of the internet, we all have copious amounts of data available at our fingertips. We want to know the science behind your decisions, we want to know the why not just the what. Be transparent as much as you possibly can be, and listen to all sides of an issue and let us all weigh in. And bottomline, when there are mistakes made, because none of us are free from making mistakes, be accountable.

As someone who started out half heartedly supporting you (yes I had heard a few too many GOP propaganda scandals), I’ve now come around to not just supporting you, but excitedly so. The more I fact check and read about what you’ve accomplished, and what you’ve overcome, the more respect I have for you.

And lastly, and certainly not least, you will change the way that women grow up in this country. My mother’s generation thought they could only be nurses and teachers or housewives. My generation was taught we could reach higher, and you will show that women can get there, and not just be there, be leading the next wave of progress. As a woman who works in tech, and in the music industry, I’ve seen lesser qualified men gain favoritism with middle management simply for being men. They speak louder and get praise. We are told to not be emotional when we are passionate, told that the cards are stacked against us. I know having a woman president won’t topple the patriarchy. But it sure goes along way. My heart is overjoyed for all the little female identified children around the country who will grow up knowing they can be president of the United States! Together we are Stronger. And that means everyone on every side of party lines. The one thing we can’t let the government do, is divide us. We must unite our interests to create a better planet for humanity. The future of the world is literally at stake.

Holy Ship! & Holy Ship!!

In January 2012 we ventured out on a ground breaking new party on the high seas called Holy Ship! The only way to describe it is by using an over used word; it was truly Epic. Three Days of cruising, and two stops on islands in the Bahamas, including a port town and a private Island. Showcased aboard the glamorous if not a bit gauche, MSC Poesia were some of the world’s leading producers in the “who’s who” of dance music. Definitely not the most underground names, but for certain, some top notch talent. Grammy winning in fact, if that is important to you. Articles released after the sailing on the Huffington Post, Mixmag, Rolling Stones, and many more well regarded publications, had something to say about it. Interestingly, this Maiden Voyage had rooms still available the day it sailed; I think people didn’t know what to make of it. After all, with a range of music from minimal techno and old school disco artists to bassline to electro to dubstep, what sort of crowd will this draw? One couldn’t help but wonder who we were all signing up to spend the next 3 days ocean bound together with. It was an absolute adventure like none other, complete with the perils of a minor ship wreck when a tug boat accidently lugged the large Italian vessel onto a sand bar. People kept a good attitude the entire time and spent the day adventuring on the islands, laying out in the sun, and other such tropical pursuits. A bit of sand was displaced but the boat was fine and the adventures continued. The second day included dancing in the Ocean and on the beach on a private island to the likes of Fat Boy Slim and others. As a dance music supporter and appreciator for decades, it was a vacation to remember. Being able to wander a huge ship from club to club with the only aim to enjoy music and friends (and of course a cocktail or two) is a nice little dip away from the demands of real life for just a moment. Warm island breezes on your skin with the moon shining up above in the center of the sky filling your eyes with light and quality music in your ears, and a nicely mixed cocktail in your hand, is a deserved break for any dancing enthusiast.

Everyone had such a blast, that when it was time to book for January’s 2013 cruise, it over 50% sold out to return cruisers and completely sold out in two days before even announcing the lineup. Talk about the power of word of mouth. So 2013 rolls around, time to set sail for Holy Ship!! not only are we riding the most bumping boat to ever sail the seas it’s also extremely hyped this time around. Definitely the second time through was a different experience from the first. It was quite enjoyable as well, but it was certainly different. Innocence lost for the ol’ Poesia, I saw some less savory behavior (if you are an offender you know who you are), but overall another a pleasurable danceathon with a few nice island moments and a whirlwind of celebrity DJ’s. Dancing under the stars in the middle of an inky black ocean in a wild pirate party seems fitting given the history of the area as the Bahamas as a popular hideout and destination for pirates of centuries prior. Many good musical moments of course, including the Fool’s Gold Rap party which featured a then relatively unknown Baauer as a surprise guest right before the Harlem Shake video craze ripped across youtube. The usual suspects who we love, such as A-Trak and Diplo also highlights of the voyage. As well as Gesaffelstein, Boys Noize and Kill the Noise ripping it up. I was a bit sad, Busy P didn’t show up as I as looking forward to his selection of choice french, electro and house cuts. We also enjoyed a late night set from Digitalism that tore up the floor a bit. Justice DJ’ed but I prefer them live. But hey, I was still on a cruise ship with Justice, why not?

What will 2014 hold? Well if you didn’t get a ticket already you will need to find someone who’s buddies bail on them and they have room in their cabin, because it sold out already in the prebook. Mostly to return shippers. This is an exciting phenomenon of a ride for the electronic music revelers I recommend experiencing it at least once if you enjoy dance music. I brought a small camera around and have a vacation like video from this time around for you to check out – mostly I’m recovering from working long hours and so dipping into a all night dance party like this was a bit of challenge and I was grateful for the inclusive coffee and snacks in the cafeteria that were perfectly adequate to fuel my dancing shoes (also a vodka redbull or three assists as well).

Enjoy the video below as I narrate through our little voyage.

You can also play find Julia as I’m in both of the official videos for a few frames.

Earth Day, Everyday

We are living in a time period where we are seeing, on a daily basis, more and more of our natural resources becoming endangered or becoming extinct. Everyday should be Earth Day, but please, today especially, take the time to get some of the facts about our planet. We currently have a major nuclear disaster, a massive oil spill that is going relatively uncleaned up, an ocean that is filling with plastic, increasing temperatures due to loss of atmosphere, and rainforest that is over 50% deforested in less then 50 years.

Find a way to help. Recycle, buy rainforest friendly products, reduce the amount of plastic you use, volunteer at your local conservation organizations, and be proactive about staying informed. Mainstream media is not going to delivery you the facts, so its important to support organizations that are working to preserve our dwindling resources on your own. Our favorite conservation organization is the WWF. Maybe you remember ZooBooks from when you are young? Well they are alot bigger then that. Get info now:

http://www.wwf.org/ and chose your country.

We recently did a symbolic adoption of a tiger through the WWF. Currently the tiger is the most endangered species on the planet.

http://www.worldwildlife.org/ogc/species_SKU.cfm?gid=33 — scroll down for various price ranges for you to donate. This is a fun way to donate to the WWF and help save a beautiful creature, that has less then 3500 members of its species left in the wild. We’ve all been to clubs or parties with more attendees then that. It’s scary.

For a full list of species available for “adoption”, click here:

http://www.worldwildlife.org/ogc/species_category.cfm

Read about the World Wildlife Fund:

So whether you donate to the WWF, or your favorite organization, volunteer or go out of your way to buy products made from recycled or biodegradable material, help make today matter, and every day. It is up to us as stewards of this planet to help to restore and preserve it, after all, it’s where we live!

Pop as a Worldwide Language

On the tail end of our last post, and for our preparation for our next journey coming at the end of the month, to Asia(!!!), we thought we’d keep with the international vibe and celebrate some of the off of center dance pop of the world.

Let’s start on theme with a little disco number from the UK. Interestingly, this was Sarah Brightman’s of the Opera world’s debut. Funny how it all connects together..

Sarah Brightman with Hot Gossip “I Lost my Heart to a Starship Trooper” (1978)

Sticking to the pop theme for now let’s fast forward to current times and give this act a look. Being billed as a “concept” rather then a “band” (much like the above) I can see big success for this group. Seems to touch on a youthful careful vibe while still being sexy and for grown ups too. However definitely at risk of being too much of a “creation” and too plastic we’ll see how it catches on in the States. Its got all the polish, shine and formula of a other internationally successful pop acts that is for certain. Straight out of South Korea (we don’t often get music from them!):

T-ARA “I Go Crazy Because of You”

T-ARA “(티아라) – Why Are You Being Like This(왜이러니) ”

Now let’s move onto something less slick and slightly more off center.. we’ll ease you in…this has a nerd girl vibe and still nice and bubblegum. Read on after this if you desire something darker. Get to know Japan’s Tomoko Kawase and her two rather clever alter egos. A light side and a dark side…

Tommy February6 “je t’aime ★ je t’aime”

Tommy Heavenly6 “Lollipop Candy ♥BAD♥ Girl”Yes that is a ten minute song with pumpkins, lollipops, and wizards for a band. Love it.

And now for probably the most epic artist we’ve uncovered, with a career spanning from the early 80s until now, she is more ground-breaking then Madonna and far edgier then Lady Gaga (<3 u still babies), and has sold over 25 million records, yet you may have not have heard of her? Because the French have an obsession with the macabre that doesn't always translate to other cultures. We think she is brilliant. Her videos are shot like films; each detail paid attention to from sets to costumes. She has too many amazing videos to post, here is a couple to tempt your palette, look her up and watch them all if you like this. Mylène Farmer "Libertine" (1986)

Mylène Farmer “Oui mais Non” (2010)

The woman doesn’t age and she’s hot too. And she can make one hell of a live show as well.

“Intro Mylene Farmer Live in Bercy 2006″

The video is a little low res which is too bad gotta get our hands on the HQ of this but yes, we are very impressed.

That ought to give you enough to tantalize your music and visual senses for now.

A quick thanks

Art and Music. Thank you for existing. You are the one force that unifies all people in one way or another in a peaceful manner. Not everybody likes the same art, or the same music, but like we are all each individuals; that’s what makes you so special. You are an escape from the confusion and unknown which is life, yet you bring us all closer. Whether you are reflecting life’s ugliest moments or displaying its grandest heights of ecstasy, you have been ever present since the beginning of recorded time.

Whatever higher voice we are all speaking when we express ourselves this way, thanks. Or are we just speaking truly from our own souls? One energy reflecting its true self onto one another?

Its all one.

Boycotting, The Economy, The Environment and You

I’ve been considering the various effects different actions have on one another on a both a micro and macro level. It is my opinion, that to have a successful organization of people, such as a, community, nation, and world, that you must have all the various extremes of life to counterbalance things. Note, I say extremes of life, however, I do not mean that to include violence or hate. Reaching the highest level of understanding that mankind can have, means leaving those two mentalities behind. Whether this is possible or not, is only controllable on an individual level. Meaning, as individuals we are responsible for own actions. There are many factors that play into this such as mental defect, though this is dealt with in a different manner, which is then, the family or society must treat the individual to the best of their ability in order to help said affect person live a healthy life. At the same time, Science, must address the issues that lay behind mental defect. We have many unexplored causes and cures and medicines and therapies that go undiscovered due to people creating red tape for researchers. This is applicable on an individual level as well. As healthy or as functioning yet challenged individuals, we are constantly creating red tape for one another, putting up little boundries on how we communicate openly because of past experiences or suspected “wrongs” we constantly inadvertently perpetuate upon each other. In order to reach a greater system of communication, we must always endeavor to overcome this innate desire to perpetuate the greed, the hurt and the anger that others have shown us in the past. That doesn’t mean being a sucker nor does that mean embracing one’s negative personality disorder disfunctions, there must be lines drawn between actual mental defect and personality disorder that can be overcome by the individual, or by the individual with some assistance. One does not allow someone to constantly take advantage of them, and not stand up for themselves, however this will occur naturally in the individual who will take the time to day by day be a little stronger and fight a little harder for what you believe in and for living more healthy each day. Its all about finding balance and equality in all things.

Moving on from You, and Me to talk about daily actions of society. Lets take a look at Boycotting, and how it affects both the the Economy, and in the following examples, The Environment and ultimately, the Self. Those who oppose Boycotting BP, or companies such as Target, tend to be more politically conservative, yes, but also, I think aren’t thinking enough outside the box. The argument against boycotting is that it then ultimately costs the working man jobs. All those people digging a living out of oil wells for BP, or working in those check out lines trying to pay their way for school, maintain a young family, a retiree, etc for Target, they are the ones that are going to get hit, say the argument. Well I say, why is it that way? The government is already involved on a political level with this companies, why shouldn’t the people that actual make these horrible decisions (At the Company you may be Slaving for) get punished? There should be large scale highly public corporate investigations into companies who partake in Environmental Short Sightedness, Bigotry and Discrimination. Unfortunately we do not live in a society where the Government is willing to take this sort of action right now. Corporate bailouts? Yes, but there should be corporate regulation on a much higher scale. Here is where the red tape comes in again – These large scale corporations have the money to get in the pockets of many of the people who go up for political office, therefore they do go unpunished. The only way to hurt big companies right now to hit their pocket book. And unfortunately, that means sacrifice for you and me. Here is where both corporate responsibility and political integrity must come into play. Back your ponies wisely, and those running for political office, you must eliminate the greed factor while still keeping everyone rich, comfortable and happy. To this is the solution that we all collectively must be meditating on everyday. To me, it all starts with Equality. Hard Work Equals Just Rewards. Corporations, you must be morally and environmentally responsible in order to maintain longevity for your creation.

Lets go back to Corporate bailouts, what if, instead of such, those who cost the money or created the failed system, is investigated, if Criminal activity is found, then, according to our justice system, these people must be punished. We have the potential to have a good justice system, but we must get the under-handed exchange of money out of the justice system as well. We scream about gay marriage these days – whether its constitutional or not, yet many behaviors that fly in the face of our founding fathers and mothers and against the CONSTITUTION ITSELF go on within the System that would have them turning in their graves. Again, more double standards.

Cut the Tape.

Lets drop the labels, the barriers, the lessons in Hate – and learn to cooperate. How about instead of Bailout money that goes to creating the same problems, we remedy the problems, and invest in programs that offer worker retraining. What if incentives were given to companies to research eco-friendly alternatives, and workers were trained on how to either aid in this or operate in safer manners? Or trained to enter new industries that are just beginning to flourish? Its all about restructuring from the inside out. On both a Economic level and as individuals.

Thoughts on the Target Boycott

Here at Planet Disco, we are equalists. Our bottom line is promoting an environment of equal opportunity, not only on a societal level, but on a environmental level as well. This effort is massive.

We believe in the right to believe or not believe in what god you chose, as long as Your god or lifestyle is not promoting violence.

Here’s what we wrote on the Boycott Target page on Facebook that now has over 45,000 members in just a few days.

“BOTTOM LINE IS, ITS ABOUT EQUALITY – it starts here and is important on a global scale. Hate is not something we have time to worry about – especially under the guise of Christanity. If Jesus was alive today, he would be displeased with any action that promoted any sort of hate. At the time, the hot issues were Whores (who were primarily of a heterosexual nature mind you) he said love all – So LOVE ALL – apologies go a little way but making action to work towards equality for all beings on this planet is the first step to reaching the highest state of consciousness. I’m not saying Gays are the new Whores but they are the new hot topic that people want to hate – so get the facts and spread the message of love not hate. Discriminating against homosexuals is no different then discriminating against someone because of their race, nationality, gender, hair color, etc.

There has been something for everything from the beginning of time. Homosexuality has been accepted part of many cultures throughout history, and in fact, in many Native American cultures, especially on the west coast, they were viewed as Shaman. In ancient Rome, when Christanity was really hitting the mainstream as a major religion, because mind you, no matter what, religion is created by man who is simply hoping to fathom whatever God may or not be, this was a common practice. The art that surrounded it was censored by new Christians who also saw to the downfall of a major capitol. All their systems failed. So why is it that you think your systems are struggling now? Drop the hate or be doomed to repeat history. Hate has been the collapse of every major society throughout history. Just think what we can create Together, if for once, we learn from our mistakes in the past?

In the same passage in the Bible that warns against homosexuality, it also warns about coveting thy neighbors wife, or premarital sex, and so on. There can not be double standards. To condemn homosexuality with such fervor, then one must also punish all those that go against its warnings. Since that is not possible nor practical for this day in age, then one must also make amends with what frightens them so about homosexuality. Always get the facts and all sides of the story. You wouldn’t send to hell, your grown children for sleeping with their future spouses or dates of a heterosexual nature, and I’m sure many at target weren’t virgins before getting married, so lets drop the hate, the Bible was written how many years ago? For a time period long passed. We must continue to spread love and continue the good writings not that of hate. ”

I have to say, its hard to feel very festive today when there is so much death happening to the earth. This BP oil spill has got planet earth majorly out of balance. The facts are, that oil comes from rot. Oil is biodegraded plants, animals, etc. Its literally, liquid death. It stores naturally under the earth in a way that keeps it in balance with the living. But because of this recent accident, which could of easily of been prevented by BP, when A: they dug the well, by enforcing it properly and B: when engineers suggested shutting it down for repair – instead BP insisted that it pump pump pump. All they cared about is their very short term bottom line. They were greedy and short sighted. Well look what is happening to their company now. Its bleeding millions of dollars. This spill will now cost Billions of dollars to be cleaned up. Planet Disco isn’t advocating the complete discontinuing of drilling for oil, however, we are trying to push for alternative resources to be put into practice asap. It starts right at home.

A Zen Car would be a lot better commuter car or one of the other alternatives that are out there.

On this day (and all days), at your BBQ’s and parties and firework shows, clean up your messes! Reduce the amount of plastic you are using! Recycle everything you can! Be thankful for your loved ones and be safe. Don’t get distracted by labels, like “Liberal” and “Conservative” – all they do is draw lines in the sand and prevent anything from getting done. Get Honest and Get the Facts!

Here is a video that was banned in the US that was done by 60 Minutes Australia. It is hard to find hence the low quality of it as it streams on the net:
BP Oil Spill

However, this is just one example of over consumerism that is negatively effecting the earth, and will drastically change all of our ways of living in our lifetime. In this day in age, for the first time as humans, we are truly faced with the most real-world scenario for extinction that we have ever faced. To get a better understanding of what this actually looks like, please review the art of Chris Jordan

Not touched upon yet, which is also very important, is the loss of the rainforest. An animation created by the founder of Planet Disco was created awhile back to illustrate this problem. Rainforest Deforestation Statistics
